06-06-02 It's been over a year... and with a concession of sorts, there is a conclusion... of sorts. This comes in the much more modern form of an Instant Message. 01-21-01 So. So. So what, no news? --thats right, now news, not really at least. Theres a Mars representative (yes, a company guy) coming to our school, and David and I are considering going to see him. David is sure that the guy will agree with him. I say-- whatever you want to think, Mr. weigh me, I'm 135 pounds. Well, me too, so I guess we would get equal votes, but why should we shortchange ms. Valeri, who might weigh in at 32? (ok, maybe more like 115,??) so maybe we'll talk to the Mars guy, but probably we'll just talk about it. (= 01-11-01 A seventh e-mail has been added to The M&M Papers. The Data section was also updated today, new Numbers were posted. We are eating the box of 48 packages quickly, it lies under my bed and tempts me. 01-08-01 A box of 48 packages of Peanut M&Ms was unveiled last night. Some were eaten, but many remain. Enough to weigh or to count. --And, if you want to be e-mailed when this site is updated, e-mail me at bec.white@gmail.com. o1-02-o1! There are 4 M&Ms in a bag. The Editor eats seven. How many must be put into the bag before it is empty? and would it make any difference if the M&Ms differed in weight by 76%? 12-22-00 Received an e-mail from L****, with attached document showing supposed proof of his theories. 12-15-00 The site began on this date. The Question itself originated pre-finals, although the date has been lost in the murk of ancient history. Correspondence Data The Official M&M Site (if you must) Disclaimer: Oh yeah, and this is in no way having anything whatsoever to do with the company m&m/mars, and it is not commercial in any sense of the word. the pictures used by us are not, generally, ours, and will soon be linked to a credits section w/ their original sources. |
Project InformationOur dedicated researchers have taken on a project for the benefit of humankind. The progress and findings of this enterprise are presented below. Updated periodically, this mystery is sure to keep you on your toes. Objective: To determine which is cheaper: buying peanut M&Ms from the vending machine, or buying them from a dispenser. Methods: We are currently involved in an inter-personnel dispute over this issue. There are two factions: those who want to measure M&Ms by weight, and those who wish to count them. Our debate, The M&M Papers, has been made available to the public, seeing as the outcome of this issue will affect people and M&Ms worldwide. Origin: Two characters, were in the lobby one night after study hours. One, W****, was buying peanut M&Ms. The other, L****, inquired if it was more cost-effective to purchase M&Ms from the upstairs vending machine or from the bubblegum type vending machine downstairs. A discussion started, and soon they decided to research the question. All was well and good, until they began to discuss logistics. 'How should we measure them?,' one asked. The proposed options: to count or to weigh? The debate continues to this day (Ok, it actually died out sometime in January of 2001). A third party, B******, entered into the debate around 12/14/00.
